It is sometimes a nerve racking time for students who are thinking of studying overseas as part of their life experience, let alone for their future studies and careers, so what does North Cyprus have to offer students in the way of a social life when coming to study here at one of the prestigious university campuses that are fast gaining a worldwide reputation for excellence?
One school making inroads into the quality and level of education in North Cyprus is the English School of Kyrenia. Formally opened in September 2008, its ethos is one of academic and personal growth, establishment of social skills combined with an excellent standard of education. Fancy a bit of a shopping trip whilst visiting North Cyprus? Why not make a visit to Arasta in the heart of the walled city of Lefkoşa to experience some modern shopping, located in a wonderfully historical location! Arasta is located at the top end of Girne Caddesi which is the main road leading up from the Kyrenia Gate – keep walking and you will come upon it one way or another! You will know you have arrived when you enter a vibrant and busy shopping district.
Every year the Gazi Magusa International Festival of Art and Culture event has proved hugely popular for people who enjoy a variety of musical genres and the festival has had great success in obtaining some big names in the world of music to tempt audiences year after year. The fact that the events are held at the historic and mystical ruins of the Salamis amphitheatre, just to the north of Famagusta, also adds to the special atmosphere that this festival manages to generate.
One organisation in North Cyprus whose main aim is to integrate cultures through art is Sidetreets Educational and Cultural Initiatives Ltd, (it’s known as Arasokaklar in Turkish). This initiative, based in Lefkoşa, has been going for some years and is rather successful in its efforts to combine art with seminars and projects as well as providing in-house facilities for residential programmes within the local community.

You are also likely to hear it referred to Kervan Pizza or Kervan Terrace amongst others, but we have used the name they use on their own sign outside the restaurant for originality!
If you are thinking of taking the plunge, getting hitched, tying the knot or making it ‘official’ so to speak, then there are places of romance all over the world where you can do so, but a great option and perhaps possibly the only option, being the birthplace of Aphrodite, would be North Cyprus! Add to that the sunshine, the stunningly scenic and panoramic backdrops and you can’t go far wrong!
To get the legalities over and done with first – all marriages are legal and legitimate internationally so it doesn’t matter if you come from such places as the UK, Russia, Canada, America or the rest of Europe, you can legally wed here in North Cyprus.
A nice little treat for most of us are the cheap goodies we can buy coming in and out of North Cyprus! Note that there are limitations on what you can bring in and what you can take out however, (taking out is more relevant for the country you are travelling back to!).
